As title states, to activate the heated mirrors you just turn on the rear defroster. I did just that to clear some rain off my side mirrors and touched them 5 mins later and they were still cold.

Does anyone know or can someone do a little test to see how long until their mirror is warm to touch?

My TDI would get those mirrors nice and warm within 5 mins max.

Thanks!

I don't think they really get warm to the touch per se, if the snow and ice is being cleared off of them, they're working. They don't need to be very warm to accomplish that.

Breath on the sideview mirror when it is cold, it will fog up. The fog on the mirror should quickly clear when you turn on rear defroster, this switch also controls the heated mirrors.

I learn something new every day :)

I didn't think this thing had heated mirrors since they were automatic on every other car I've had with them. Is it only on Premier?
Heated side view mirrors are optional equipment on the LT and standard on the Premier.

Maybe they put really weak heater elements on these in the name of energy savings? I ran my defroster for at least 10 minutes and I'm pretty sure they didn't heat up at all.

They don't even make the water drops on them evaporate like most cars would.

I will hit them with my FLIR gun before and after and verify.

I just got my LT Volt last tuesday right after new years, and it was super cold for the next 7 days. When it was -30 Celsius out and i preconditioned the car, the mirrors were slightly warm to the touch compared to every other part of the outside of the car would almost give you frostbite... They don't need to be hot just warmer then 0 Celsius, or 32 Fahrenheit for all the Americans in the forum.
