I just ordered the black Chevy bowtie kit for my 2017 and was wondering if anybody else has swapped out their gold bowties for the black ones yet. I'm curious if the gold ones just pop off and have adhesive behind them or what and if the new ones stick right on in the same way.

If you are talking vinyl overlays, they apply right over the hideous OEM gold bowtie emblems. Remember, prep is key for a successful mod like this.

Why are you referring to to them as OEM bowties? Is your dealer selling them? Please note, these are not OEM but are only aftermarket decals. How much are they? Price them against online retailers and ebay to see if the price is right.

My preference is to buy a small sheet of vinyl, apply it and trim accordingly. Best results IMO.

My chrome vinyl overlay (last resort as there is no replacement bowtie emblem available)

And you'll have a better idea about how they mount when you get them. Could be some instructions on swapping them even......
Yep... was just curious if anybody else had done it so I could hear what I'm getting myself into. Another way to put it would be "How hard is it to remove the stock emblems?" since I imagine that's the only part that isn't obvious from the new kit.

Also take note that those 'OEM' replacement emblems aren't likely to work on the front with 2017 models that have ACC. ACC cars have a completely different, flush emblem covering the radar system.

I have installed the optional black bowtie badges and they were a piece of cake. The font one just clips on. It was easily pried off with a trim removal tool without damaging either the emblem or the grill. The replacement then just snaps into place.

The rear one is the typical tape adhesion. I heated the emblem and them "cut" through the tape with fishing line. I rolled the remaining tape off of the mount with my finger before installing the new one.

Here's the back of the front emblem if you are interested and the rear one after installation.

I just bought a roll of 3M vinyl wrap to do both grills and cut out a few squares to do the badges. Took 5 minutes to do each badge and the entire roll was $35 for 6 feet.

Would a vinyl wrap on just the emblem be possible for your ACC-equiped Volt? I wouldn't think the thin film would interfere with ACC radar/sonar/whatever it uses since it's not a metal-impregnated film.

So the rear emblem on a 2017 can be heated and slid off and it doesn't have any fastening plugs or holes under it?

Mine came with the black emblems. Was a bit extra but glad I don't have to mess with vinyl like I did when blacking out my GMC Terrain emblems. Those were a pain... and honestly, these make the car look much better. Didn't care for the gold emblems at all.

Pictures before I took delivery last Thursday. My car is dirty so can't take my own pictures until I wash it myself.
