How many of you believe that professional Hackers and other world events occurring today will cause MOST all electric vehicles to go back to the GM VOLT concept providing ENGINE/GENERATOR as back up power source in case and when hackers shut down our power grids??

IF and when that happens all of the all electric vehicles merely become useless.
However, if backed up by an engine/generator can still operate.
The obvious answer is most essential businesses will need to have a back up generator to maintain operations such as (hospitals, emergency services, gas stations etc)
....and ALL EV's will need to have back up power sources such as engine/generator and/or storage system for our solar systems.

The good news is the technology and ranges will get better and better and there will always be a back u system.

My understanding was this was actually a fake story that got promoted while establishment politicians were attempting to delegitimize Trump. Russia! Russia! Russia!

As for the EVs being unusable, that is patently wrong. Fossil fuel production, refinement, and delivery are far easier to disrupt than electrical power generation.

While I do agree that we should all have our own battery backup systems that enable us to cut ourselves off from the grid and still function, Russian hacking is very far down the list of reasons and justifications.

If the grid goes down for any significant length of time we'll be in much bigger trouble than merely not being able to use our cars. My backup transportation plan is my bicycle.

If someone really can kill the grid regularly and repeatably, you've got much bigger and earlier problems than electric cars - like feeding everybody when the grocery stores and your refrigerator at home are both without power.

If you think someone is likely to be killing the grid regularly, you should be preparing for that, presumably with either a generator or solar+battery pack or both for your home - which coincidentally could easily charge an electric car, too.

This is something that warrants real thought? You do realize power plants still have manual operation mode. Manual isn't as efficient as computer control, but it still functions. I think my Volt can handle the few hours while Homer Simpson schleps himself down to the plant.

But what about sun spot pulses? Or the Earth reversing polarity? We better figure those out!

I am shocked that NO ONE has mentioned the largest threats that can emanate from the other 99.9% of the worlds planets and solar systems??
Hasn't anyone seen or remember....HANGER 54?... WAR OF THE WORLDS? or CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND??
