had a little disagreement with a taxi cab... idiot ran a red, swerved to miss a car and into me (I was stopped at the light on a cross street)... I had dash-cam footage for my insurance company.

Based on initial visual inspection (by me), the radiator was split and had to be towed.

Guess the total estimate!?! Keep in mind what you can not see!!

Sorry about your accident, but very happy you made your case with this video footage. Absolutely commended that you have a DVR. Without is it's just a bunch stories and unpaid bills.

My '16 got hit by an elderly driver who denied everything, my DVR recording got me approved for HIS insurance payment the same day.

I am going to guess that is a $12k US fixer upper. Bumper, Fender, grille, Radiator, Fans, Charge unit, misc. brackets and paint.

When a kamikaze deer ran into the front of my Volt (son was at the wheel) it cost $3600. But we lost the hood, the grill insert, and the radiator, but amazingly the bumper popped back into place and only needed paint. So I'm guessing north of $3600, but maybe less than 2Voltfamily's $12K guess.

Did the small silver car stick around (Subaru, I'm guessing)? They ultimately caused the taxi to swerve, though I don't fault them, they were expecting to turn left on yellow.

Looks like the fault of the small silver car to me. They made a left turn right in front of oncoming traffic. The taxi swerved hoping to scrub off some speed, then was unable to find a safe way out in the rush of the moment.

Feel sorry for that passenger since this looks like a cab ride from hell...hopefully no injuries and the cab companies insurance would cover this 100% whether your Volt is totaled or not...good luck!

That looks like Russian dash cam, the drivers have never heard of brakes.

That cab could probably have stopped in time or lessened the impact, looks like he didn't want to wear out his brakes or they failed.

Maybe it's a salvaged title with a stack of paper towels where the air bag should be.

That's the longest light I ever seen. Someone's bound to run into you if you sit there long enough.

Agreed, it looks like the cab made no attempt to stop. Reminds me of the cab ride from hell late at night when visiting Taiwan. The driver was doing 45-50m;h on city streets, as he approached a red light, le let the foot off the gas, looked both ways, the plowed on through. Then later as we entered a complex spaghetti full of ramps, I heard a screech and a crunch on the ramp above us. Note to self, no more late nights out in taipei.

I've got one I've been "meaning" to put in............better get to it :D
Knowing my luck, I'll order one online, and it arrives the day after my car is totalled. Be forewarned, some people have reported their G1 TPMS going wonky when they plug in the power supply of some cheap Chinese dash cams. Get a reputable brand (i have no idea what's out there - any recommendations?)

I paused it just as the cab was swerving and there's a green light for the cross traffic. Both cars appear to have run the red light in my opinion, but the cab did the damage so he pays the bills. I'm guessing $5500.

Just watched again and the cab isn't even in the frame when the light turns green but the other car is already turning into the intersection. Doesn't look like the cab ever touched the brakes.

When I was a young driver, I made a similar mistake. I was waiting to make a left turn and the light turned yellow. I saw one car on the other side that I assumed was slowing down, instead she sped up. She also turned into the direction I was going which caused her to hit the tail of my car. We both made mistakes and insurance saw it as 50/50. That's when I learned to never trust other drivers.

+1 for using a dashcam. Some people act like friggin idiots when behind the wheel. Especially when the traffic lights turn yellow. I have so many dashcam clips of people blasting through red lights.

Telling by how the van pushed OP's car, I'd wager $12k for body and mechanical. Hood, bumper, possibly passenger fender, radiators and possibly the onboard charger (passenger side front bumper). A photo would help a lot.

As he types on his Chinese keyboard. :)

I have Autovox in both of mine. It is wifi so you can download video instead of removing the card. Only complaint is the camera quality is not that great as some of the expensive ones but it does the job. I have them set to run 24/7.
