Hi Everyone,

I'm a Volt "possibly" and joined the forum to help me learn more about the Volt so I can make an informed decision if I choose to purchase one.

I currently drive a 2011 VW TDI that I'm considering selling back to VW in exchange for their rather generous buyback offer. I bought the car in 2011 because I really enjoyed the low-end torque as well as the better than average fuel economy that the diesel provided. I considered the Volt and the Prius at the time but didn't like the look of the Prius or the newness of the Volt. I was driving a lot more highway miles when I got the TDI but now am almost exclusively in-town with trips of 20 miles or less each way. My annual mileage is probably 9-10k with 80% city and 20% highway. The Volt looks like it might be a good option given my situation.

I took a test drive the other day of a 2017 LT and I really enjoyed it. The torque is very "diesel-like" and the ride/handling seems pretty solid. It's just my wife and I so the smaller backseat isn't really a big issue. The cargo room seems more than enough for our typical needs, especially with the rear seat down. I could see myself driving the Volt on a daily basis but I have a few concerns that I need to get additional information on before I make the final decision. I'll spend some time going through the forum and post any questions I can't find answers to.

Looking forward to finding out more about the Volt. If everything goes well I might just end up getting one!

Well, you didn't post any questions. But I'll post a bunch of answers

-Premium, gas & model
-Don't freeze, use heat
-If you had to ask, get an electrician
-It does that
-Ally isn't your ally
-Power off, fixes itself
-ClipperCreek, VoltShelf, VoltScreen, antibuffeting kit, PlastiDip, GM Card
-$7.5K off tax owed
-L2 EVSE is liberating
-Don't provoke Elemental or DogMom
-81.8 mi - Ari C
-It drops when cold
-Slow down, it goes farther
-Don't push twice while moving
-Bolt:don't know yet

It's like jeopardy, now you have to answer in the form of a question.

I'll take you up on your Jeopardy Challenge. Maybe I know more than I think I do:

Well, you didn't post any questions. But I'll post a bunch of answers

-Premium, gas & model- What grade of fuel does the Gen 1 Volt require?
-Don't freeze, use heat- Will using the heater reduce my range and is it worth it?
-If you had to ask, get an electrician- Can I install a level 2 charger myself?
-It does that-Does the Volt do....?
-Ally isn't your ally- Is Ally a good lease company?
-Power off, fixes itself- My display locked up, what do I do?
-ClipperCreek, VoltShelf, VoltScreen, antibuffeting kit, PlastiDip, GM Card- What are the most important add ons to get for the Volt?
-$7.5K off tax owed-What's the Fed Tax Credit amount?
-L2 EVSE is liberating- Is installing a L2 station worth it?
-Don't provoke Elemental or DogMom- Which forum members are the most friendly?
-81.8 mi - Ari C-Who's achieved the longest electric only range?
-It drops when cold-What happens to my range in the Winter?
-Slow down, it goes farther-How can I increase my range?
-Don't push twice while moving-What happens if I push this button?
-Bolt:don't know yet-Any opinion on the Bolt?

It's like jeopardy, now you have to answer in the form of a question.
How did I do?

Mostly there. For the premium, you missed the model half. 'Should I get a premium or base model?" Or for g2, premier or LT

For it does that there are multiple answers:
- why does the infotainment reset all the time
- why does it count electric miles as gas
- why does the sound come minutes after I start the car
- and many more

For ally, the question is "should I lease my car?"

The fixes itself has lots of questions also...

For the fed tax credit, it is often in response to someone claiming that they aren't writing a $7500 check come tax time, so they think they don't qualify, when they really do.

L2, close, it'susually in response to someone being a nerd, doing the math and can't justify the L2 based on dollars and cents as they will never save enough from fuel to pay for the EVSE. They don't take time and convenience into account.

Elemental and dog mom - not even close. They almost verbally killed each other a few years ago. It was wildly entertaining as Elemeental was always coming up with the crassest things to post. But dogmom wouldn't have any of it and stood her ground. I miss both of them as they have both gone MIA. I'd pay big bucks to see those two in a cage match. My money's on dogmom. She even posted swimsuit photos of herself on this forum. Gutsy lady.

Cold dropping.... yes, but the other interpretation is something that elemental would likely point out...think Seinfeld and shrinkage.

Slow down - correct, except again elemental would make jackrabbit innuendos here.

Pushing twice - specifically, the blue power button

Bolt - an question about the bolt between Jan 2015 to Jan 2016 when there were no real answers.

Now for a real test, where did this appear any why is it so terse and cryptic?

I'm glad I got some of the questions but I still have some research to do. I'm looking forward to learning more about the Volt and if I get one, participating in this community.

I'll take a SWAG as to where your list of questions originally come from and my guess is that they were once part of your signature?

Yup, there is a 500 character limit for signatures, thus the terseness. Then I changed signature, but kept a copy of this around on my iPad for posterity sake.
