AFAIK, all current (non-vaporware) ultracapacitor technology is more expensive than even the most expensive Li-ion format and does not overcome things such as rapid self-discharge and low energy density. Small ultracaps would work well as buffers to prevent premature battery wear and provide for "turbo" acceleration, but they are still fairly expensive. PbA, NiMH, and Li-ion are still the top three viable solutions for all-electric vehicles.
