Pontiac did that with a Ferrari 308 in the early 80's when designing the Fiero. It certainly stands to reason that every automaker takes engineering cues from other manufacturers in the same way.

Its a copycat industry. Tesla has openly published all of there designs to help encourage EV adopting. No real reason to cut a bunch of them up if they are willing to dust hand you the schematics.
