GM tops Tesla in ranking of automated driving systems. Tesla #2, Nissan #3, #4 Volvo's Pilot Assist ranked the least effective of the four.

Consumer Reports tested four of the most popular systems and says Cadillac's Super Cruise does the best job of ensuring the vehicle is driven safely while making sure drivers pay attention when they take their hands off the steering wheels.

"Super Cruise has a camera that looks at the drivers' eyes and warns them if they look away for too long or fall asleep, and that's a game changer," said Jake Fisher, director of auto testing at Consumer Reports.

No surprises for me here.

I haven't driven Super Cruise yet myself, but I'd like to. Obviously, the biggest issue with Super Cruise is that it requires the roads to have been HD mapped, but so far, it's been the best performing of any "auto pilot" system.

I also haven't driven Tesla's EAP, but I have driven their AP. I agree that it is a step above Nissan's ProPilot based on my experience, but I don't know how much better I think it is.

I'm just not a huge fan of self driving for myself. I'd be more interested in it for my brother and mother.

It's not a huge surprise that GM would be the "safest" system. They have the deepest pockets to protect.
