Our local Detroit news stations are making some fuss about a supposed "big announcement" by Wagoner tomorrow addressing problems and changes within GM, and to their product line to address current market conditions and new consumer demand. They might also announce plant closures and restructuring.

This could be of interest to those of us following the Volt closely (or those of us who work for GM in fear of losing their jobs).

The announcement is to be held at 8:30AM EST on Tuesday. It sounds like Fox 2 Detroit will be airing it live, so you can watch on your computer (myfoxdetroit.com).

Wow. You know it ain't gunna be good news. The collapse seems to be coming faster than I thought. We'll be lucky if GM survives to build the volt. Hope I'm totally wrong. My silly predictions:

Plant closings.
Layoffs.
Hummer's history.
Buick to be phased out over time in North America.
SAAB's for sale.

DaV8or,

You are absolutely right. Local news is reporting that insider info is telling them that plant closures, layoffs, and discontinuing of certain brands and models will be on the speech. Channel 7 said the speech would also talk about new models, and even made a plug for the Volt, suggesting that it (and other new smaller cars) would be an emphasis in the speech too in order to show that GM isn't dieing.

Sounds like all the local stations will be airing the speech live at 8:30AM and simulcasting it online. So there's lots of station sites to choose from if you aren't in Michigan.

They also said that McOld will be at a town hall meeting in the GM tech center addressing the need for new products on Friday.

If GM had any brains, they would unveil the new Volt design in this speech now that they have 100% attention from the press, and then have it in the background at the town hall meeting on Friday.

The Volt is coming early, and for less than 40k.
If they say that, I will personally pay for the lease of your floor mats of your 2010 Volt.
