Laws are different than here, labor union could potentially block the deal...But to your comment that the Ampera can't change the tide, GM has gone on record saying it only expected 5000 annual sales but had the ability to produce more if there's demand...

Talking about a deal is not a deal. I know in 2009 GM considered selling Opel but decided not to, primarily because it wanted the engineering. My guess is Voltec and other technology would not be part of the deal.

GM should have dumped Opel decades ago, its like riding a losing stock, hoping for a rebound. In Europe, too many manufactures after to few sales, it is never going to turn around. Finally GM has a CEO that will make that hard choices.

There seems to be a lot of miss-information in the article.

1. Opel is now profitable in the most recent couple of quarters (just barely and for the first time in many years).
2. GM isn't looking to sell but PSA is looking to buy. GM floated the idea of selling Opel during the financial troubles of 2008-2009 and PSA was a strong potential suitor.
3. GM contemplated selling Opel under hard financial times when they were also selling SAAB, Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe. Today GM only has Opel in western Europe. I don't see GM selling it's only real brand in Europe. GM sold SAAB, very recently pulled Chevrolet and Cadillac has never had a real presence. Now GM is looking to re-introduce Cadillac in Europe. But they don't step on Opel's toes so there is no brand conflict.

Opel is technically mostly a brand name. All the engineering and most manufacturing in Europe is technically under GM Europe's corporate umbrella (and not Opel). So not sure how that would work out either.
