Looks like GM's EV vehicle count just went from 20 to 22, haha. Two bikes (one folding), some say they will be part of the Maven ride sharing program as well.

GM announced the e-bikes Friday along with a contest asking the public to name them for the chance to win $10,000. GM showed off an e-bike concept in 2015 but has said little about the project since then.

Based on the Volt, Bolt, would you trust GM to build a great electric bike? I'd certainly trust the battery engineering.

Perhaps regen charging via the pedals...

But it's a good question. Related, does coasting downhill top up the battery?

Anyway....... GM to Launch E-bikes in 2019

Looks like a PR stunt to me. The e-bike market it already very competitive.

Speaking of stunts, and in other cycling news..... Hello little girl!
There's a bunch of car and motorcycle manufacturers moving into e-bikes. I don't know whether they're trying to hook in the yuppies, or trying to get people used to buying transportation from China.

It could be defensive. The last thing they want is for e-bikes be successful. Taking the higher end would make it harder for competition to become established and grow downwards.

Elon said Tesla would not be going into electric scooters because they weren't classy enough but might go into e-bikes. Don't quite see the logic in that. Hasn't he ever seen any 50's - 60's Rom-com Hollywood movies of over in Europe where the protagonists always drove scooters?

Dozens of e-bikes on Amazon you can buy right now:
Mid Drive Kits allow you to convert your favorite bike into an ebike.
And you can move the kit to different bike later. I want one for a tandem I have.
A torque sensing Mid Drive Kit. No throttle required. But you can add one if you must....

You can't get regen braking from a Mid Drive but you do get a wide range of speeds with max power available.
Hub motors are somewhat limited.
Geared Hub motors have more starting torque.

Will it be a Chevy branded folder E bike? I'm in!
3yr/36k mi. B2B warranty? 8yr/100k mile powertrain warranty?

only thing I don't like about the mid drives, that I know is planetaries are straight cut gears and it sounds like a DeWalt drill going down the road
so iwent on the web site and put in a name

Would be in the frame. Tour de France racing bikes are monitored with sensor on motorcycles to make sure there is no electric assist as you can't tell the difference by looking at them and these are skinny light weight frame bikes.

if they are in the frame, cant see it being a high amp hour battery, could be wrong though
still ,I like the looks of it
