GM dropped the Volt in the USA but how about the Buick Velite 6 in China

If it was because it was too expensive to build & sell in the USA how come they're building and selling one like it in China!

The Buick Velite 6 PHEV combines a 1.5-liter 72-kilowatt (97 hp; 98 PS) internal combustion engine with an 80-kilowatt (107 hp; 109 PS) electric motor, driven by an electronically controlled variable transmission (e-CVT). Together, they produce 135 kW (181 hp; 184 PS) and 380 N⋅m (280 lb⋅ft) torque.[8] With a 9.5-kWh battery capacity, the PHEV has an electric-only range of 60 kilometres (37 mi) and total range of 780 kilometres (480 mi). The Velite 6 PHEV includes a "lock" mode which keeps the car on hybrid power for maximum range.

Interesting. I was hoping that it used the same battery as the Volt (for a possible source for replacement) but it looks like the Volt Gen 2 was the "Velite 5." Darn.

No, it's a totally different animal: Buick Velite 6 for China previews new GM approach to electric cars

The puzzling thing is why GM would go and create a one-off architecture for this new car, moving away from the Volt's, the Bolt, and architecture and Ultium? There needs to be a bigger play at hand or another car company involved but I haven't seen any hint or evidence of these things. ...yet

wild guess, but the Velite 6 doesn't have a "transmission hump" which makes it an actual 5-seater without having to have the middle seat straddle the battery tunnel, and maybe that's an important thing for the design in some way.

Seems to me Toyota leased their old Prius' designers team to GM...

GM dropped all PHEV's everywhere at the same time as the Volt. Even China.
