There still in the middle of testing and the requirements for the sensors may change. There's probably no point in spending money on that kind of integration until the final design has been pinned down. The LIDAR units on the BOLT EV are visible at the top and look ungainly. GM should had designed a more integrated roof unit so the Bolt EV would be “plain” when driving on public roads. Ford has built 50 autonomous Fusions integrating the LIDAR into the “A” pillar like a second set of external mirrors and look great.
The new unit does seem smaller, at least from the photo. Maybe a different angle would show better? There still in the middle of testing and the requirements for the sensors may change. The interesting thing about that is they fired their CEO and promoted the head of the AV division due to the AV not being competitive enough...Ignoring the "AV levels" of 1-4/5 because no one is there yet, would like to see on a scale of 1-10, 10 being at least as good as a human driver in ALL situations, where each automaker would rank? Supposedly no automaker ranks very high, do great in well marked roads if there are no surprises but I'll give kudos to GM/Cruise because they're testing in heavily populated areas with lots of "surprises"...The LIDAR units on the BOLT EV are visible at the top and look ungainly.
