Anyone know the current draw or wattage of the DRL on the Gen1?

I modded the DRLs so they stay on with the headlights, but they look too bright for me to be 100% comfortable with them. Looking to try adding a resistor in series with the diodes to see if I can tame them a bit for night driving.

They draw almost exactly 1 amp, so are probably about 12-14 watts.

They seemed bright to me as well. My wife said they appear as bright as the HID headlights. On the other hand night vision on a dark street is much better with the DRLs on. I'm thinking of rigging a RF controlled relay that maybe can be program to one of the Home link buttons so I could turn the DRLs on or off as needed.

If you are worried about blinding oncoming motorists, I can say I have never been flashed for these (I have the mod). I think they are less bright than you think from the perspective of oncoming drivers. They look brighter when you are standing in front of the vehicle due to the broadly diffused beam.

That could mean that the oncoming drivers think that one blinded driver is better than two.

Greater diffusion means that they are brighter than more focused beams at off angles. Especially at an intersection or the crest of a hill where brightness at an off angle can be very troublesome.

KNS/Barry - The off angle is what I'm worried about as well. Straight on, they are about the same as the headlights (I installed LED's) I've never been flashed either, but from an angle, like an approaching car in the other lane, they are just brighter than I'd like them to be. I think it's more annoying than dangerous. They do improve visibility particularly in say a dark alley.

SharkVolt - Thanks! I'll test out a few resistors to see what looks best. My guess is that knocking them down 25-40% or so should be fine.

!arry4pyro - remote controlled DRLs would be sweet! Let us know if you ever figure out a way to get them working. Not much room around the harness for extra hardware, especially with the LED drivers on my headlights already crowding things. You've given me something to research over the holiday though.
