Hi All,

About 6 months ago, the built-in voice commands started exhibiting a weird error whereby it understood the fixed commands (like "Tune XM" or "Call") but couldn't understand any proper names; the names of XM stations (like "BPM" or "First Wave") or the names of contacts in my phone's address book.

When this happened, I brought the car in for service. They had it for about 3 days and finally found a solution - and it was an easy one!

All they had to do was set the car's voice system from English to Spanish (or French) and back again. Voila! Everything was fine again.

Yesterday the same issue occurred again. "Tune XM BPM" which usually works flawlessly instead resulted in "Please say the station name or number," etc...

I switched the car's voice recognition language from English to Spanish and back again, and now everything is working as expected.

I still don't know why this happens or how to prevent it from happening again, but the fix is fast and easy and works.

Of course, YMMV.

I know my gen 1 has some voice commands, but I never read the manual or used it enough to figure it out. Instead I just say "Hey Siri..." it's good enough for mapping, phone calls, and music.

My voice commands were messed up just as you describe. Today I switched to French and back to English.
Result: Voice Command restored. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't even realize that I had voice control of the radio in my Gen2. Then, when I tried it because of your post, I had the same problems you described. Switching to French and back to English solved everything and the voice control is neat!

I actually stopped using the Voice commands on my 2017 Volt. I used to be able to say "Call Patricia" (my wife) and it would but for the last 12 to 15 months its been a royal PITA so I gave up and just asked to DIAL the number.

Gonna try this on my 2017. Thanks for the tip.
