Has anybody seen this problem before? I didn't drive it very severely, and everything seems ok till..... When I started the car, it gives me all kinds of error message, the dashboard is totally out of function, no speed, no information, nothing. the headlight/turn light doesn't work. The car can still move with its gas (from the engine noise I can tell). I tried multiple times per day, the problem remained. I waited couple days, same problem.

I took the car to the GM dealer, they saw the same when I brought the car in. However, the problem went away once I left the store......they spent a week including inspection, long road test, but can't reproduce or find the problem. They said they have never seen this porblem before. Is that true? Am I that lucky???

Today I was told to take the car back, and keep an eye on if the problem happens again. I don't feel comfortable though, but that's the only choice GM gave me.

Just like a computer -- a fresh shutdown and re-start may fix it

but dealer should check codes in a few day or have onstar tell you if there are any codes
push the onstar button they will be happy to email the codes if any.

The 2 times I had something like this it cleared up after a few restarts.


A full shutdown includes -turn off ( in park) - close all doors - and walk away with the fob out of radio range.

Do you have anything plugged in to the OBDII port?

This sounds like a classic CANBus problem, which can be caused by several things, including a device in the OBDII port that forces the car onto an older, slower protocol. The original Scangauge was known for doing that, and some cheap Bluetooth dongles will as well.

(It can also be caused by a shorted wire somewhere in the car or a module that's badly faulted.)

If it returns have the dealer check the 12v battery with a load tester. A standard no-load test doesn't work with AGM batteries - they can only be properly tested with a load on them. I agree this looks like a CANBus issue, but if the 12v battery isn't supply 12v under load then the CANBus won't work properly.
