This morning was about 6 degrees F, I set my climate control to share floor/defrost and headed out.
Very soon I noted the windshield was starting to fog except for right above the vents. Floor heat was fine.

I hit the full defog button and there was an audible thump as the ducts re-directed all air to the windshield which quickly cleared. When I set it back to share floor/defrost it went right back to just the floor and barely any windshield.

I clearly remember last winter that the sharing between defog/floor was pretty even and worked well. Also the system used to switch between settings with a sort of "whoooosh" sound, now there is a fairly abrupt muffled thump as it moves from floor to vents to defrost.

Any suggestions for what I might inspect to see if there is something I can do about this?

Try the same settings only make sure re-circulate or Auto re-circulate are both off (they are not lit up). Had the same problem on the coldest days. This worked for me.

I've been battling fogging issues all winter, till I discovered turning off auto-recirc! I wish it didn't auto-select it when pushing the auto button. Also, are you using comfort mode? Airflow in ECO is pretty lame. I also noticed my cabin air filter was pretty dirty after 2 years.

I'll have to check Auto-recirc, that may be the problem.
running comfort mode
Just replaced the cabin filter in Sept.

It seems like everything is working fine in all other modes (floor, vent, full defog), it's just the shared defog/floor mode where it used to evenly split the air between defog and floor, and now it basically does about 90% floor and 10% defog. To me it "feels" like the flap is hanging up or something.

I cant recall which one it is, but there is a fuse you can pull to force the volt to 're learn' the flap positions. If you search the forum I'm sure you'll find some threads on this. Basically you pull the fuse and reinsert it while the car is on and you should hear the flap moving around.

Edit:

Pulled the F5 fuse and let it set for about 10 minutes while I made a phone call. Plugged it back in and "Voila" seems to be back to the behavior I was used to before. Thank you!
