So, this is my first post here but I've been reading for a few months now.
I have a 2016 Volt that I was doing some repairs on, so the trunk 12V battery has been disconnected for some time. Upon connecting back, I saw this.

That "Classic/Modern/Enhanced" setting did not change much. That design looks more like from a Cadillac ELR, but also different.

I'm glad I took pictures, because after a couple days and another battery disconnect the cluster reverted back to normal. Just figured I would share ;)

That's very interesting as it means the ELR and G2 Volt display (maybe just the 2016s) share more than just a passing resemblance. I for one would love to get a look at the source code behind the display.

Looks like the flash memory cleared itself when it lost 12V power. I wonder if it reverted to a very old firmware, or if this is just a setting that is "default" but all Volts ship with a different setting as the "stock" setting. There has to be a way to get into the computer that runs the dashboard somehow (GM would need to be able to do so) but it would require a lot of tinkering and probably some proprietary hardware...

That's one of the reconfigurable gauge layouts for the 2016 ELR. How strange to see it without the circular chrome bezel that sits in front of the ELR gauge cluster screen. I've always wondered what got displayed behind that ring and what allowances they made in case of alignment issues with the little glowing dots in the bezel. Now I know!

It looks more pixelated than in the ELR, too—maybe the Volt screen isn't as high resolution. It's interesting that the computer could get confused about which car's dash to display! Thanks for sharing.

I was wondering why Chevy didn't have an option to switch from digital to analog readings. The choices they give are so limited. This would be great. Looks nice.
