Does anyone know how to remove and install the upper chrome trim on the driver's side front door? I got a ding in mine today and I would like to replace it. Its part number 1 in the attached picture.

I tried searching https://www.repairprocedures.com/ after selecting the 2017 Volt didn't go through all the results to find the specific trim/molding you pointed out. Perhaps you'll have batter luck? If you need the full procedure, you'll have to pay, unfortunately.

Suggest you buy the part and look at it to determine how it mounts. During speaker install I removed the inner panels and inner window trim. From memory, the trim was a series of barbed clips that grasped a door lip, similar to other vehicles I have worked on...
Many of the panels on the Volt "unsnap"
Although kenetic blue with black wrap might be interesting...
