Frank Lloyd Wright's Volt

Frank Llyoyd Wright was an innovator way ahead of his time. Like the Volt, his homes where often misunderstood, but many of his ideas became common over time and his homes have outlasted his critics.

This summer our family took a trip to Ann Arbor, where we had rented the Palmer house. On the way to Ann Arbor we stopped at an outlet mall in Michigan City Indiana where we plugged into a free ChargePoint station. While sight seeing and having lunch we loaded 38 miles into the battery and then we were on our way again. We were able to charge up again at the Palmer house. Return trip started on a full battery (with a stop at Zingerman's Deli for lunch), and the rest was ICE. Over the total trip of 573 miles we used 9 gals of gas (63.5 MPG).

I love seeing our Volt juxtaposed against this home.

Big FLW fan here. A few years ago we made the trek out to western PA for a weekend trip on the motorcycles, and saw Kentuck Knob and Falling Water houses in the same day as they're fairly close to one another. Both great, but Falling Water is on the highest level of human achievements in my book; more awe inspiring to me than the great cathedrals or pyramids, it feels like all of humanity was lifted when that house came into existence in the 1930s, I'm not kidding. I can't recommend it strongly enough. If you go, take one of the longer tours.
