Ford Lightning: We'll charge all the dead Teslas

Uh, exactly how many dead Teslas are there? I think this is probably a non-issue for Tesla owners.

Ford has been vocal about the new F-150 Lightning’s bi-directional charging capability that enables owners to use the electric truck’s massive battery to charge other EVs. And, now, the company is apparently including a new accessory so these Good Samaritan truck owners can help out stranded Teslas.

F-150 Lightning owners were positively gleeful about the notion of rescuing stranded Tesla vehicles. “We can help all those poor dead Teslas,” the original poster wrote. Another forum member said they would add a bumper sticker to their truck that read, “Tesla Rescue Squad.”

One of the funniest posts I've seen on any forum ever.
Well every other day I see a post on Facebook mocking an EV owner for having to use a gasoline generator to charge his car because it died on the road so it's good to have this capability.

Weird. I've never run out of miles on my Bolt EV. I've never run out of gas in my previous gas cars either, but know it happens.

With more on the road here, I've seen a few that were stuck after trying to push it too far. As far as the adapter being included with some of the initial Lightning's, it's serving it's intended purpose. It's providing some marketing/PR regarding the truck and it's on-board power capabilities.

It's because Lightning owners likely drive Tesla's.
I know people who run out of gas all the time because they think they can make it a few more miles to the station. Those same people will run out of ‘lectricity, too, because that’s just the way they are.

Me? Exactly once in more than a half a century, and that was in the first couple years of driving. Walking a few miles in blazingly hot and outrageously humid summer weather taught me a lesson I never forgot! Coulda been worse, though, coulda been winter!
I've been driving for close to 10 years now and have yet to run out of gas or electricity. Probably came close a couple of times but yeah. But it definitely happens. Somehow. Lol

My old man gave me hell when I ran out of gas once, "Cost the same to drive them full as it does to drive them empty"

In the 40+ years I've been driving I've never run out of gas. I've come close a couple of times though. My wife ran out of gas one time but it turns out the fuel level sender in the main gas pump in the tank had failed - her car said she still had half a tank of gas. I always want to reply to those Facebook anti-EV fools by asking them how many times they've run out of gas, pointing out that EVs are the same.

My old man was the guy that made me walk a couple miles in the heat. He could've driven me, but when I asked him to, he replied, "And then what kind of lesson would you learn?"

But there are all those Tesla's out of electricity littering the streets. It's hard to even drive down the road they are blocking so much traffic. If only I had a truck to rescue them. /s

Of course, the Lightning EV would never, ever fall victim to an empty battery... er, ah right? If it did, maybe a Hyundai Ioniq 5 could rescue all those poor dead Ford Lightnings, lol.

The rumor is Ford is looking at a range extender disguised as a toolbox in the rear. Filed a patent for it.

I have a 4000 watt generator strapped to the inside of my pickup bed. Perhaps I could go do some Tesla rescuing.
With the Focus BEV I did a round trip skipping the charger in the middle that I would usually spend an hour at, and made it to the corner of my yard. I ran 4 extension cords and the L1 charge cord out there to give it enough to park it. It was a lesson learned for me. Luckily never ran out of juice outside of that one time, I got very lucky with that situation.

If only there were a car engineered to address "range anxiety". :) I think the Volt was a decade ahead of it's time.

The really ironic thing is the F150 Lightning was the first EV Kyle Conner from Out of Spec actually got stuck away from a charger doing their range testing:

Apparently, most other EVs get really squishy on the accelerator in their last few kWh available, the F150 not so much, so it convinced him it had more bottom buffer to go than it really did.
Just be aware that YouTuber stunts for videos with exclamation points in the titles may not represent typical user experience. ;)

Steverino,

My first BEV was a 2015 Chevy Spark EV and after getting stranded (embarrassingly) with passengers, 4 miles from their house, had to have it towed then stayed with them while Level 1 charging the Spark overnight so I could get home the next day! After that I was so range anxiety paranoid that I purchased an Italian Subaru/MeccAlte generator and rewired/engineered it for 240 volt operation. I could roadside charge the car on the open EVSE at Level 2 set at 12 amps without stalling the generator or the open EVSE shutting everything off. Carried the Gen/charger in the hatch area bolted down for safety. It was nasty though (gas fumes from generator gas cap vent) and took hours to charge for just a few miles, was glad to trade the Spark in soon after. Was a silly, fun adventure but I was single at the time. Still have the generator in case it's needed for a home power outage.

Battery + gas powered generator. That's essentially how the Volt was born. :)

Well, there will be when the ice storms cause massive traffic jams on interstates, and EV drivers freeze to death when batteries die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(jest kidding)
