Autonomous buses are a good method to show the advantages of the technology, and are simpler to implement because they travel on a fixed route, and just need to avoid obstacles and obey standard traffic laws and rules according to the area serviced.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure why Autonomous vehicles are such a big deal. Why not focus on increasing efficiency more than eliminating a human driver. We hear on the news about how important it is to create "American jobs for American workers," but we strive to automate and streamline, so more widgets can be produced with less workers. I stand back, scratch my head, and wonder how this will all pan out. Then I hop into my Volt and drive home.
