First Test: 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV 2LT SparkSS

Christian Seabaugh gets it right:

At some point while whipping silently around a corner -- with the exception of two screeching front tires fighting 400 lb-ft of torque -- I came to a startling conclusion: Chevy's SS brand is alive and well. The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV 2LT is not just one of the best electric vehicles not named Tesla, but one of the best hatchbacks Chevrolet has built in years. I suspect drivers with a daily commute that takes them through congested Californian and Oregonian cities will start thinking of the Chevy Spark EV as the Chevy Spark SS.

Seems like GM stumbled into a winner! What' great is the focus in on performance and driving and NOT on the question of how much will you save in gas. The gas question may be appropriate for conventional hybrids like the Prius, where you give up performance, ride and handling for better MPG, but not for EVs, which give you the benefits of an electric drive train.

Now all they need to do is ship one to Vermont for cold weather testing...which I'll faithfully carryout this winter...:)

Shame GM Marketing doesn't try to push the luxury elements.

As a compliance car they shouldn't need to push the gas savings. However, if they actually become serious about selling it they will have to emphasize savings. It's one thing selling a performance car, but another thing entirely selling a performance minicompact BEV.

I wouldn't consider the Spark to have much in the way of typical luxury components. The car feels pretty cheap inside even when compared to the Prius interior. It made the Volt interior seem truly luxurious. I still like the car, however. :)
