2017 Bolt Premier

So today 9/19/17 was the day the new IOS 11 was available to download for I-phones (and other Apple products). From YouTube vids I had seen, I was looking forward to enhancements relative to the use of CarPlay. After downloading and then connecting my iphone by USB, at first I was dismayed that the CarPlay feature in my Bolt was no longer working. I recall some message appearing stating a need for a MyLink app, though a search for that did not reveal the even was such a thing. I was imagining coming home, and using this forum to report the issue and seek help. But for some reason on my second time (an hour later) connecting my phone, the CarPlay link came up right away no issue at all, and hence since worked fine.

Impressions: I mainly use CarPlay for navigation (Apple Maps), Amazon Music, and the text message app. While there are some minor enhancements in the text message app and minor cosmetic changes to Amazon Music - in my opinion the Apple Map navigation is highly enhanced. As I was expecting, you now get speed limits (very accurate in changes) and a very nice lane assist enhancement. But was struck me most was the enhanced detail of the sort of 'grey satellite' type view that you see by default. Previously, I would only see detail of nearby buildings and houses if I zoomed in significantly - at a level beyond what you would normally want to choose. But now, I see this sort of building detail even from a more far away view. Living in Las Vegas, this was especially dramatic with all the detail that is shown driving near the strip and in particular the 'City Center' area. With IOS10, none of this detail showed beyond just some blotchy representations labeled here and there. Now the detail was so impressive, I found myself in danger of looking at the navigation screen too intently relative to attention to actual driving. I think I'll enjoy the next time I am the passenger.

Just thought I would let everyone (Apple users) know, encourage you to upgrade to 11.

To add to my original post, there are still a couple minor bugs at least affecting me for some apps through Apple Play post IOS 11.

Turns out if I connect my phone to the car via USB 'before' I start the car, then Apple Play does not show or launch. If I plug in 'after' I start the car then Apple Play appears as it should.

In my Amazon Music app via Car Play, it seems after I select my music (a playlist or a station, etc) -the now playing window appears showing the song selected - but it will say 'loading' seemingly forever. Pushing the play button does nothing. But if I then go to my phone and the Amazon Music app directly and then hit play, everything is fine and the music will play through the car audio. Not only that, but then after I can hit ff or rewind or pause and all works fine. It's just needs that sort of pump prime of my hitting play from my phone directly.

Apple debuted a new safety feature in iOS 11 with "Do Not Disturb While Driving

"Apple notes that even if not connected to a car, it can detect that the car is moving, and enable the feature accordingly.
Regardless, CarPlay functionality stays live. Navigation and music playback still work."

I will have to check if this applies to my Apple watch ie no messages if Do Not Disturb While Driving is selected.

the restrictions kick in at about 13 miles per hour

and yes, you can click ( I am not driving )

I don't know if this still affects my Volt, as I have gotten into the habit of connecting my iPhone after the car has fully started.
