I was wondering if the following is feasible (or some other workaround accomplishing the same thing):

This assumes that the Volt will not have and extra battery option. Buy extra deep cycle batteries and an inverter and place them in the trunk. Connect bypasses from the recharging plugs to the inverter. Then while driving switch on the inverter to charge the batteries while driving, thus extending the volts range.
