I hope that our electric grid will be up to the task of supplying the current for that growth.

While all electric sounds enticing, I think plugins make more sense. Until battery cost and performance improve significantly and improvements made to the charging infrastructure, it make more sense to carry around a battery just big enough to handle most of your driving and small enough to charge at home. Plugins burn gas for the occasional longer trips, but they work better for most people and as such, are a better solution for electrification for at least the next decade.
