I noticed this the other day also. Switched to hold mode doing 30-50mph on a cold 25F morning. I smelled the same unmistakeable smell of gasoline that you get with a cold catalytic converter. It was definitely not an oil smell that followed the car about 4 miles. Went away when (I assume) the cat warmed up, same as what happens when it is preheating using the ICE in my driveway.

Car was just checked over by the stealership for it's 10th birthday a couple of months ago, so I doubt I have any serious and obvious exhaust leaks. But it's possible. Checking for that would be the first step in troubleshooting that I would do if I was worried about it.

If you force the engine to run while stationary, like in a parking lot or driveway, can you smell the gas from outside of the car? Any drips on the pavement? If it's a gasoline leak under the hood, it also would not go away once the cat warmed up. Such a leak could be extremely dangerous...
