The first generation Volts had hard limits on the range estimate - initially 50 miles, raised to 60 on 2013 and later. Folks who drove very carefully in good weather could drive for several miles before it came off of the limit. I haven't read of a hard limit on Gen 2 before, but it wouldn't be terribly surprising if there was one.
