i am new to the space and Ener1's earnings announcement caught my eye today. Ener1 management has outlined a pretty ambitious ramp up plan for its li-ion battery given customer awards they hope to procure this and next year. Does anyone have an opionion on this battery? Is it really cheaper, safer, lighter and more efficient as they claim? I would think that companies with ties to the larger OEMs, like an A123, would have a greater edge in designing the best li-ion battery.

I read the same report, and followed Eern1's progress for a little while. They seem well positioned for success, and seem very focused on doing those things necessary to succeed.

In all honesty, I believe there is soooooo much business for good Li-Ion batteries, that there is room for many, many entrants. Success will more likely result from how well they pick their customers. Currently, those suppliers supporting the Chevy Volt are best positioned, while Ener1 and others will continue to make good money supporting Th!nk and other smaller vehicles.

Shake out among battery suppliers is years away, as military, ORV, marine and industrial applications will offer limitless markets for anyone with a good product.
