This is what he said previously:
Elon Musk was asked if the Model 3 would include free Supercharging in relation to the new supercharging program changes announced earlier for the Model S and X(details below):

His answer is as follows:

“Model 3 from the beginning we said free charging is not included in the Model 3;free unlimited charging is not included, so free long distance is, but not free local. It becomes really unwieldy for people to use the gas station approach for electric cars; cars should really be charged where you charge your phone, but then you just need to solve the long distance problem which is what the supercharger stations will do.”

https://insideevs.com/elon-musk-tesla-model-3-will-get-free-long-distance-charging-not-free-local/

Now it turns out there is no free Supercharging of any kind, long distance or otherwise:

Another rug pulled out from underneath those poor Model 3 reservation holders! With Model 3 production falling behind schedule, gotta save the pennies somewhere! First it was the mass firings/layoffs, now this.

edit: and seems Tesla was lying about the firings being "performance related". Geez, can we believe anything the company says these days? And it seems the number dismissed was more than the speculated "400-700".

You are referrencing an 11 month old quote. I can still supercharge a Model 3 in my area for $0.16 per minute, with a long range Model 3 that equals 170 miles for $4.80, or less than $0.03 per mile. This is less than I can charge my volt for at home, which is $0.04 per mile.

So 11 month old promises become null and void after 11 months +1 day? Lots of unhappy married people will be happy once they find that out!

If I were a Tesla owner (Model 3 or otherwise), I would not want the network to offer free unlimited charging. That is a recipe for disaster. I would want them to at least eliminate free local charging and I also like the yearly cap on free charging. I also would not mind a reasonable fee for all charging. Free charging just chokes the chargers with people who don't really need to charge there.

Here, a year ago he said it would NOT be free.

Also, I don't think we have heard anything official. I think there is some misquoting or maybe misspeaking. There have never been official promises that the Model 3 charging would be free. As much as I like to pick on Tesla, this is a total non-story.

He said LONG DISTANCE CHARGING would be free, not local. We have current Model 3 owners now saying no Supercharging of any kind is free.

Like a certain politician, you can't take anything he says or tweets at face value. And his base doesn't care.

That's a little bit of good news for TSLA investors. Tesla should be making a profit on Supercharging, not giving it away.

No, look at my link, Elon was quoted as saying a year ago:
The obvious thing to do is decouple that from the cost of the Model 3. So it will still be very cheap, and far cheaper than gasoline, to drive long-distance with the Model 3, but it will not be free long distance for life unless you purchase that package. I wish we could [make it free], but in order to achieve the economics, it has to be something like that.

My point is, your original reference to this from 11 months ago is either a mistake in the quote or maybe Elon misspeaking as just a month earlier he said specifically that long distance was not free.

Reference to a quote saying you pay for long distance:
https://insideevs.com/elon-musk-supercharging-wont-free-model-3/

Reference saying long distance would be free:
https://insideevs.com/elon-musk-tesla-model-3-will-get-free-long-distance-charging-not-free-local/

My point is this is a non story as the car isn't even shipping yet (not really). Maybe they will include some credits with it when they do, but given Elon said very specifically it would not be free a month earlier, it might simply be a misquote or a misspeak.

It doesn't matter to you as you are not buying one. My wife is buying a model 3 and it doesn't matter if it is free or not.

I guess Electrek (you know, the TSLA shill site) also misquoted Elon about the free LONG DISTANCE Supercharging Model 3 owners were supposed to enjoy. Everyone misquoting Elon! It's a conspiracy!

Let it go. No one cares but you, Bro. And you won't be buying one anyway.

No one cares about Musk's continuous lies and deceptions? I'm sure investors, stockholders, and especially Model 3 reservation holders don't care one bit while Elon speaks out both sides of his mouth, right?
Seems you care enough to post a reply anyways.

What is with your constant attacks of Musk and Tesla? Tesla owners know what they are getting when they buy. Is this really all that relevant for a Volt forum?

Seems to me potential buyers and shareholders/investors will decide if this is important. I'm neither so I don't really care, but I do hope Tesla succeeds.

It's posted in the Tesla sub-forum, so that's fine.

There are some Tesla fans that hate the Volt and spew non-stop anti-Volt or anti-GM screeds. Bro is like that, but regarding Tesla.

Tesla can do no right. No matter how big or small, no matter whether Tesla buyers care or not, Bro will make a mountain of it. He's like John the Prius guy who posts on the Volt's main topic of the day. Toyota can do no wrong according to him and GM can do no right.
