I am finally going to replace a semi-damaged driver side outside mirror.

I looked at the diagram on GM Parts Direct website and can't figure out how the mirror is attached to the mirror housing assembly.

Does anyone know how the mirror comes off? Do I just place my fingers behind the mirror and just pop it off?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Yes it just pops off. I found out the hard way when my passenger side mirror clipped the garage trim. There are plastic clips on 4 sides that hold it to the mirror motor. Good luck with not breaking anything.

One way to possibly see behind is to start the car, then use the mirror controls to swivel it all the way up and in or down and in and you might be able to see the assembly with the help of a flashlight then try to pry with a long skinny screwdriver.

Thanks llninja! I hope I can get it loose without breaking anything else!
I should clarify, my experience with with a gen 1. Take it with a grain of salt if you have a gen2.

Very timely. I have to remove my driver's side mirror too to replace the black housing after my Gen1 was hit while parked. The housing cost me $50 at dealer. They told me to be careful popping it out to prevent breaking anything else. Please update how it went.
