The X101 stuff should be ok for your needs, quirkySquirt. I bet it will stay on ok. If you want to give it a little extra holding power, a very thin bead of silicone a caulk or a few spots of hot glue on the backside of the door should do the trick.
Don't use the stuff I the second link for door edges. Just don't. It won't scratch the paint. But you are right. It will look terrible there.
