Don't be fooled: only some electric cars are sold nationwide, even now

EDITOR'S NOTE: This article was originally published on August 11, 2014, when modern electric cars had been on the market just three and a half years. Three years later, confusion among buyers still exists as to what vehicles are available where. We have updated the article accordingly.

I think anyone that frequents this site or similar ones, even as a lurker, is at least a partial advocate. Which is a good thing. When I jumped into the PHEV game in 2015 I'd barely heard of the Volt and Leaf and surely had never heard of any other PHEV or BEV beyond Tesla. I'm near Rochester, NY (in a CARB "follower" state) and I've yet to see a single commercial for ANY plug-in hybrid or total BEV yet. GM had stated they would spend their advertising dollars in non-traditional ways since the target market didn't watch TV! What they seem to not understand is that they watch plenty of TV...just not ON television. I'm retired and watch my TV by way of Amazon, Netflix and so many of the younger crowd. I'd love to see one of those "real people" commercials running down all of those awards actually stop and point out all of the ones for Volt and Bolt and feature them as talking points even if they didn't offer fancy leases etc. I'd bet that inquiries and purchases would pop.
The old adage that they're building what is selling or we're demanding cuts both ways. WE buy them because we know. Others that don't know would buy them if they DID know.
