Hi, folks -

Getting used to my recently bought 2015. On a couple occasions, I've had long drives and needed to use the ICE, on freeways.

While driving freeway speeds, 45-70ish, the ICE makes a very deep bass thrum/vibration. Do others experience this as the typical noise from this type of ICE? I'm fairly ignorant but it strikes me as something that might need checking, or may just be the way this engine runs.

Thanks.

By modern ICE standards, no one would call the Volt genset quiet or smooth so, yes, it is normal for this car.

That sounds about right. The ICE in Gen 1 (unlike Gen 2) only runs at certain fixed RPMs, some of which are quite low. Gen 2 does better with the noise, but transfers a bit more driveline vibration to the rest of the vehicle due to its setup.

There were certain roads on my Gen 1 where the ICE would make this metallic vibrating sound. Also thought there was something wrong, but it was just the way it was.
