Ditch Those Incandescent Interior Bulbs!

Hey All,

I bought my 2013 white diamond tricoat Volt about three weeks ago, and I love, love, love it! :)

I imagine many of you are like me, and couldn't believe Chevy used boring old incandescent bulbs for the interior lamps in such an otherwise technically sophisticated automobile.

I found some LED wedge base tower lamps at www.superbrightleds.com that I REALLY love. The part number is: WLED-xHP15-TAC. A direct link to the LED assembly is here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/more...194-led-bulb-15-smd-led-wedge-base-tower/910/ I have replaced the front dome light, and both front and rear reading lamps, (incandescent #194), with these LED bulbs from superbrightleds, and am very pleased with the bright, cool white light that they provide.

I also have these on order for the sun visor lamps: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/festoon/fuse-led-bulb-1-smd-led-festoon/243/

I'll let you know how they work out!

Regards,

Please keep us posted, and a few photo's would be nice.
How hard were the bulbs to access and change?
Hi Chiro444,

VERY easy to access and change. I suggest using a table knife to GENTLY pry away the lens covering the lamps, loosening the lens from all sides. Once the lens is removed, the bulbs just pull out. Be careful though! They may be VERY HOT!

Bob
I already changed the three bulbs in the center (dome and reading ones) but found that brighter, or even whiter, lights in the sun visors created too much glare and made it too hard to see with. Maybe some low power yellow LEDs would work ok there.

Also, there are some LEDs available that have side facing light, so you can use them for the rear hatch light.
I really hate the stock ones too....please pictures would be nice :)

I replaced mine within a week of getting my Volt (now over a year and a half ago). I didn't use the exact bulbs that Bob used (got mine on Amazon), but I'm sure the lighting is very close.

There are a total of 3 194 sized bulbs right? And that is just the front and rear dome light. The map light have a total of two bulbs, and the cargo area one 175 bulb? I just want to make sure I order the right ones.

Thanks!

Yes, an exact inventory and bulb number along with location would be great!
I bought these on Amazon.

10 lamps for about a buck each. They work great. They fit the dome lights and the license plate lights.
I really liked how "White" the light is, it's crisp and really makes the interior white trim 'pop' I put the small panel led's in the front reading lights, the round led bulb in the center overhead light in the front and blue panel led's in the rear upper light fixture. I did it on ebay for 12.00 I put a round led bulb in the trunk light, was a bit tight as the bulb is longer than the typical glass bulb, but it wedged in ok. Wasn't sure about the blue LED panels in back, but give a good contrast in the back area, leaving the black leather less reflective.

I purchased the same set and have been running them for about a month now. The look is what I wanted with a price that was right.

When you say dome lights, are you talking about all of the interior lighting in the ceiling? The front and rear dome light, and the front two map lights on either side of the front dome light? Also do you know if these fit the rear cargo light area?
What I've read, the dome, map, trunk, and license plate lights are all the same. Correct me if I'm wrong...
They are all the same.
