I frequently use CarPlay with my 2017 Volt. Why do I have to exit CarPlay just to display the outside vehicle temperature? The temperature could be displayed on the left side of the CarPlay main screen, just below the current time (note that the time is displayed.) Maybe this is a question for Apple.

It's probably an equipment thing. The time may be coming from the phone. Phones don't have ambient temp sensors.

The OEM implementation could do a blended display though. Depends on Apple's licensing more than programming I'm guessing. Don't see why Apple couldn't provide widgets for car data in the future.

For temp, Apple CarPlay could do something like calling TWC data. They already do it for summary display. (Swipe right).

In principle, the temperature could also be shown in the display behind the steering wheel, along with the speed, etc. There are several options for what's shown there, so you might check them all out. I don't recall any of the options including the outside temperature, but I might be forgetting that detail.

I agree, GM could include the outside temperature in the Gen II Driver Information Display. Whenever the outside vehicle temperature is 32 degrees F or below a warning message appears in the Gen II Volt Driver Information Display to use caution as there may be icy road conditions. Why not make the outside temperature a driver option all of the time?

I like this idea! Android Auto used to show a weather card on the home screen, but it mysteriously disappeared in a recent update...
