ALS has taken my wife's leg muscle control. She can no longer lift the right leg enough to properly brake her 2013 Volt. She's not to the point where she needs to stop driving but she is at the point where hand controls are a necessity.

Adding the controls is a bit time consuming but not terribly difficult.

Before I can add the hand controls I need to disable the driver side knee airbag. You don't want an airbag deployment event to shoot the hand control metal rods into the driver.

Would anyone have a disable procedure for just the knee airbag they could share? I'm thinking if I just disconnect the airbag, the car will set a DTC and the CEL will light.

P.S. This particular bypass is not compatible with the Volt according to the compatibility widget.

All you need to know is the value of resistance that the computer looks for in the bag. Then, add that resistor in place of the bag connector. All other bags will still work, and no light. That's all a bag "simulator" is.

What you need is 2.4 ohm resistor to simulate the knee airbag.
Without the resistor you will get service airbag light.
Disconnect 12V battery and wait for 10min before disconnecting the airbag.

2 bolts and the whole panel comes out. Make sure you disable the SIR before you pull it by disconnecting the negative battery cable.

Also, you should be aware that many airbags have two inflators per airbag, so to simulate those airbags you may need two simulators. I have no idea how many inflators the knee bag has.
