Very interesting article. A more accurate battery gauge would be most useful for BEVs. Less so for EREVs. The Volt is sufficiently accurate because if it misses by a few miles the worst possible consequence is that the gas engine runs for a few miles. No big deal. On the other hand, the Leaf range estimator is not very accurate and, if you rely on it and you come up short, then you have to call for the flatbed.
