I recently discovered the fact that the door panel on the Gen 2 perfectly fits my 32 oz Nalgene water bottle, even at an angle allowing easy retrieval. Wow.

This being America and all, I consider myself a bit of a cup holder expert. The fact that you thought enough to allow me to carry my water bottle in the car, but to also allow to have a cup of coffee is one of the most thoughtful things you or your brethren have ever done for me.

Given my Lexus CT200h had the worst cupholders conceived by mankind, this was a most pleasant surprise.

Thanks again!

I agree. The front cup holders and spaces are well designed.

The rear cup holders are kind of shallow and there isn't much other storage available in the rear. Good thing I don't carry rear passengers (at least thirsty ones) all that often!

I agree with the door bottle holder: I keep my thermos of soup there.

I disagree with the center console's cup holders. Cups there get in the way when I rest my arm there. Take a look at this video (not mine, so can't take the credit) to see what I mean:

I have to use the passenger-side center console cup holder in order to comfortably use the gear shifter. Otherwise, I'm arching my right arm in unnatural angles.

Unfortunatley, I don't have a good suggestion on where to put cup holders so didn't feel like complaining until now. My only recommendations is to have both cup holders on the passenger side where the passenger's left thigh and knee would be. They don't need to use their legs to ride in the Volt, so they can suffer some lost of leg room to keep the driver quenched!

I have to fully agree, in particular on the gen 1. I like the cubby hole in front of the shifter, but I would gladly exchange it in place of moving the shifter rearward and putting the cupholders between the shifter and center stack.

I discovered the side bottle-holder a week or two ago. It's a clever bit of design that you would expect from the Japanese, not Americans.
Have you found the umbrella holder in the door?

I stole my wife's umbrella a couple years ago to put in the Volt's umbrella holder. It was pouring rain at the recent Drive Electric event in Spokane, and she repossesed it. She asked me "how many times have you used it?" Game over for me!

Cup holders work fine for me. I typically have a 16oz coffee cup and no problem there for my everyday commute. Even on very long trips when i might put a bigger water bottle there, it is still ok becuase i use the water bottle much more than i shift modes, so for me it all works great.

Totally thought you were joking, as in the Rolls Royce umbrella. But then I googled it and sure enough, there it is. No mention of that in the 2017 manual though... cool easter egg! Thanks
My Google-fu is weak. I'm going to have to look for this. Neat place to stow easily reachable tools in a roll-up tool cloth.

You guys must be using very large cups. I always have a coffee cup in my Gen 2, and have never had a problem with it.
I think Fast Food (and Starbucks) drink sizes have gotten stupid in their over-size. I order the small only in these places. Personally, don't see why coffee (or soda) needs to be consumed by the 'gallon' in a single sitting, whether in the restaurant or on the road.

Yeah. I almost never order drinks from fast food places (I'm too thrifty to pay $2 at the drive thru for 25 cents worth of soda), so I rarely use the cup holders for actual cups. Usually it's just water bottles or the occasional can.

khalfyard, I totally agree. A thirty-two ounce drink can do serious damage. The New York gov / mayor (?) had the right idea. Of course it caused a major kerfuffle about taking away peoples right to kill themselves by soft drink.
