Dead Center console

Our almost one year old 2017 suddenly has a dead center console.

Everything else work, no warning light behind the wheel, No error code reported by OnStar when asked.

I doubt it is a fuse, because when I drive, a couple of times the screen came up with the general menu, but was non responsive, and shutoff again after a few seconds.

I have an appointment with the dealer early next week, but was wondering if anyone encountered a similar issue, and if so what it turned out to be.

Thanks

Haven't gotten my car in to the dealer yet but my center screen/infotainment has been dead on two occasions right from power up. Climate buttons are fine, but no screen, no radio, no bluetooth, no wifi. After a shut down though it comes right back like nothing happened. Interested to hear what they tell you. Good luck.

This sounds similar to what my 2016 did, and required replacement of the HMI interface module (I don't know the proper name, they just used the term HMI) -- in my case it took a few days for the part to arrive, was supposed to take a couple hours to replace but took closer to 5 hours. It was fine after that for a couple months but then happened again, at that time they thought it was a data cable issue (thread is around here somewhere) and they replaced the cable and one other part (may have been the screen itself or may have been the HMI itself again), but since then all has been fine.
I tried disconnecting the 12V battery to make a hard reset, but that did not solve the issue.
What it did is make the radio volume come on next time I started the car, and of course no way to turn it off as the power button on the console as other do nothing...

It took me a few minutes to find out I could turn it off with the phone hang-up button on the steering wheel...

I also check the Battery while disconnected and it reported 12.76V so that looks normal.

We will see what they say next week.

Sounds like a cable or connection issue. Obviously the unit functions if the radio is producing sound, but the control panel buttons and screen are not in communication with the unit...
So I brought the volt in today, they say it is the HMI module.
It is a restricted part so we will see how long it takes to get there.

They also mentioned there was a recall / update due for camera freeze (39570). Had not heard of it, but that was done too.
They put the part in today and all is well :)

Question:
This happened a week after we started using a USB key with music, always plugged in.
Likely unrelated, but I read that some Gen 1 users had problem leaving one always plugged in.

Are there any known issue with leaving a USB key always plugged in in a Gen 2?

Thanks
Glad to hear you're back in business. I will have to keep this in mind if mine goes out again. I have a couple other issues I need to have them check out, but since my own infotainment issues have not resurfaced I'm thinking it may have been a fluke. Maybe I'll wait and see if it happens again some time between now and the 36k mile mark when the B2B warranty expires.
This happens to me intermittently as well - the center console will be blank and completely nonfunctional, and the next day it will usually return to life. This past week, though, it died on a Tuesday and did not function again until the following Saturday. The GM dealership where I purchased it refuses to fix it until they see it happening, even though I have video evidence of it doing so. I am not happy about this, as when the center console is not working, the rear camera view and oncoming traffic indicators - not to mention the audio system - are not functional.
This happens to my 3month old 2017 Volt Premiere. Random blackouts. Dealership has been shown the problem. Car was brought in twice and service couldn't reproduce problem (ironically the screen was dead when I took car back - but I was in rush to get family member medical care and could not leave car, of course I could make handsfree calls either to discuss the problem. My husband brought car with a dead screen in but they did nothing. This is getting to be ridiculous, Chevy obviously knows about this and yet lies to us.
Black screen

Yes, though turn volt off then restarting doesn't bring screen back. Infotainment screen will randomly blackout and then pop back on, sometimes after 10min, sometimes after an hour, random. It started when car was less than month old. Still happening, car is almost 3months old. No fix yet. Good luck. Please post info if you get this fixed.
My volt apparently caught the bug. 6 months old and ~7000 miles. Screen went black for most of the day and then came back.
