Well, this makes a fair amount of sense in my opinion. Gas stations already have a great infrastructure, and convenience stores make money on the products they sell inside more than the gasoline. Installing charging stations like this would result in far more people going inside and buying something (percentage wise) than the people who gas up.

Royal Farms has already done this at their gas stations. Over a dozen CCS/Chademo charging stations already installed at MD/Mid Atlantic locations.

Royal Farms is more like a 7/11 with gas pumps as opposed to a barebones gas station with drinks and snacks only. Can order a whole bucket of fried chicken or made-to-order sammiches! :p

IMHO, restaurants and shopping malls make more sense in the long term. A convenience store is a place where you stop for five minutes to get a loaf of bread and a jug of milk. Even at DCFC rates, you won't get much charge in that time. If you go somewhere for a meal or to do significant shopping (a week's worth of groceries, back-to-school shopping for your kids, etc.), you're more likely to be plugged in for half an hour or more, which will get you significant charge at DCFC rates. Add movie theaters to the list, too, and it needn't even be DCFC -- you can get significant charge into most cars at L2 levels in the time you'll spend watching a movie.

I agree and the chances of them being ICE'd are slim. Just read the posts on Tesla/Leaf forums about ICE'ing. That could be catastrophic to a BEV at a low SOC in the dead of winter traveling with children.

That's what has bugged me about Tesla's approach, their SC'ers are located on someone else's property that usually co-mingles their normal business traffic with a Tesla's need to charge.

I can only hope that there are enough future thinking executives/board members/share holders of gas station/companies that can think of their future and long term growth and start installing some FAST chargers and L1/L2 don't count.

It will only work if you don't leave your car unattended- as it is now, people go off for a couple of hours or maybe all day hogging the spot for exclusive EV parking rather than EV charging. Perhaps one day charge station will adopt a full service attendant approach and handle moving the cars around. This might not work so well for small urban gas station properties. You also won't like the price for the attendant.

There are a couple of PETRO-CANADA's here (in Ontario) that are rumoured to be installing DC fast chargers. I've not seen one in person yet though.

The article covers DC chargers for the Nissan Leaf, so they will be CHAdeMO type. If they want more business from EV owners, they have to add the SAE CCS type, too. This will allow all other brands (including Tesla Motors) to use those stations.

This is already happening in my area. There are three Sheetz gas stations that have CCS/CHAdeMO chargers. Really convenient since they have a restaurant and seating areas.
