Hi there!
I have a 2012 Volt that its turning me nuts!

I've searched all the forum without finding anything like this noise.
The issue appears in my FL wheel when I turn right. It only happens when I go faster than 20 m/h or so, and turn applying the breaks or in L mode. If I go slower or I turn without breaking, the sound doesn't show up. It is possible to hear with the window down, it is happening definitely outside. The noise goes from from faster clunking to slower in order the car got lower speed (I'm sorry the system doesn't allow me to publish videos yet).

I take it to 3 different workshops and nobody knows what is wrong in it, everyone says that the car is ok. It has now around 77k miles but it has the same noise since the 60k at least. It got a little worse but not so much.

I would appreciate any help.
Bests!

A clunk or is it a click? A click could be a loose axel nut, a clunk could be lose caliper brake. Did you check the bolts for tightness? Clunks could also be a strut issue.

It could also be the front suspension stabilizer assembly. Does it do it randomly when going straight over slight road imperfections at all?

Hi! it sound like "clac, clac, clac, clac" . I left the car in the workshop today, let's see what the guy says.
He checked the suspension but it seems it is not. There is some lack of grease he said, so he will disassembly the wheel to see what happens.

No Prohibidium, the noise is only happening when I'm turning, not in the beginning of the turn, neither in a full turn. Only in the middle of the turning and when the wheel is going back to its straight position.

Sounds like an outer CV joint if it is a clicking sound.

I had something similar at around 60K miles. I would get a soft "clac, clac, clac" and it was easy to reproduce. Brake while turning right, like when you come to a stop at an intersection before making a right turn. Also easy to do in a parking lot. Opening the windows made it more obvious. I suspected it was the CV joint. I had the GM dealer look at it. They replaced the axle shaft and it went away.

Is your dealer able to reproduce your sound?

If you have had 3 different mechanics not find any problems and say it is OK, then It is probably OK to let it go, at least until it gets worse.

Dear all,
finally the guy called me. He said that they checked everything and it is the cv joint (not sure what part of it exactly). They told me that it is hard to find here (Europe) and would cost more than 900€, so they will send it to another workshop to fix it rather than changing it. I will have more news next week.

Hi everyone, just to update this thread. Cv joint was replaced and the noise disappeared. Now they found another noise, but nobody knows where it comes. I don't know which type of noise is it either, so I still waiting for a new report from the workshop.

I think I have something similar while turning left. It only happens while in the middle of the turn; slight or full steering lock does not do it. Also only during decel. I would have normally thought CV shaft, but the noise disappears when I go full lock, so that threw me off. I will put a new one on and hopefully remember to report back for another data point.

Finally, I got answers from the dealer. After tests and so on, it seems that this second sound comes from the famous "B rotor bearing failure". They wanted to charge me 2000€ for disassembly and repairing it. However, they didn't know about Voltec warranty, I asked them to cal GM and see what is covered. The car is under the warranty so I hope the cover everything. I'm not sure at all.
