When I drive at no particular speed, I have begun noticing a clicking noise that’s coming from the rear passenger-side of my 2014. It seems to be worst when going over bumps, or turning. What’s strange is that it sometimes happens when I’m driving perfectly straight on a smooth road… Can’t explain it, but it's always while I'm moving. My best guess is that it’s coming from the side frame of the rear hatch. I removed all the plastic covering and got down to the metal frame of the hatch (picture attached). I inserted my tiny camera inside of the metal hatch frame and all I can see is a wire inside that is attached to the side very well with double-sided tape. So I really doubt that’s what is causing it. The wire doesn't seem to move around at all and I even tried shoving a towel in there to help hold things together. The only other thing I can think of is pumping some Great Stuff in to the frame, but once I do that it’ll be nearly impossible to get in to this tight area and not sure I want to mess with that. What do you think? I can't figure out what's making this noise. Anyone else experiencing this? It’s maddening.

Side note – I was surprised to see an un-insulated wire inside this hatch frame… Maybe its for the window defroster. I attached a picture of it for your perusal.

Yes, that is one of the wires that attaches to the window heat grid. I think I'd focus on a rear brake. Roll down the rear window and see if it's louder at low speed. Or have someone ride in back and listen. I've had missing or broken anti-rattle clips cause some very irritating noises. I also had an issue with my driver's window making a creaking noise when I got my car. It was caused by the window track being a little too tight. Also try wiggling the rear spoiler on the hatch. They've been known to make some noise.

It is the rear window defrost wire. That's the normal method for attaching it to the element traces.

Do you here a Click, Clunk or Ick Ick Ick?

Don't think it's the brakes, the noise happens without touching the brake. The noise is definitely coming from the inside. Just a single clicking noise at a time, but happens about every 30 seconds.

That is a weird one. Interior noises are a bear to track down. Any chance it might be a Click sound coming from a Speaker?

Hope your car is still within 3 years or 36K miles. Bring it into the dealer asap. Sound like the rear axle. I had a 2014 as well and it gave a lot of problem as well. For 3 years, it was in dealer for five to six times due to some problem I went back for re done.

1) Some kind of bearing related to regen
2) Replaced the rubber shoes under the trunk lid
3) Trunk lid lifter replaced
4) Transmission mount
5) Rear axle
6) Charge port receptacle
7) Check engine light

Good luck!!!

Brake issues have been known to cause a noise like this, doesn't have to involve touching the brake pedal. Could be loose calipers for example or bent brake backing plates. Even a rock stuck in the tight area between the wheel and brake caliper can click or grind. Or a rock stuck in the tire tread (the rear tires are notorious for picking up small stone).

Rather than insisting it can't be the brakes, take off the wheels and inspect the tires and brakes. If nothing else, it will rule them out. Alternatively get someone into the cargo area as you drive. They should be able to narrow the location of the ticking.

I think it's your entire rear hatch. My volt made noises like this over bumps, but opening the hatch and twisting the bumpers with some trial and error made the sounds disappear for me. The ones hear the hatch hinge were the ones that did the trick.

Of course, we can't even let a thread go by where someone asks "what's that clicking noise" without resurrecting this

Found it!!!! When I push on the corner glass of the hatch, the noise can be heard outside, however it's amplified inside the car. I took a video, you'll hear the noise 3 times outside, and then 3 times inside.. The barking isn't coming from my car :)... Next step, may bring to the dealer to figure out the fix.
