Note: I am not the creator of this video nor do I have a dash cam in my 2017 Volt. The following short video (under 3 minutes) shows you how to easily install a basic dash cam in a Gen 2 Volt. I suggest you read up on the applicable laws in your state or province governing dash cam use and any restrictions on where a dash cam can be placed so as to not obstruct the driver's view of the road. You can also start reading here: dashcamerasreviews.com/dashboard-camera-legality-usa/ In my State, Maryland, GPS receivers and dash cameras must be less that 7 inches square and may only be mounted in the lower corner of the windshield (either side is ok).

Thanks! - That will come in very handy

I don't really want to mount one on the drivers side of the mirror like he did though and there's not much room on the passenger side. Don't know if all Gen 2's are the same, but mine with ACC has a HUGE black thing with a feedhorn (you can see it from outside, through the glass) which takes up most of the room near the mirror on the passenger side where I would like to put a camera. There is one small unobstructed place just above the mirror on the passenger side where a camera could go . . . . if I can find one small enough to fit there

This video sure helps with the routing of the power cable and where to tap the fuse panel

Thanks for the video. I'm just recently getting into dashcams for the same reason as the video post (accidents).

I also pasted the fuse panel info from my Gen 2 manual. Video said F36 or F37. If F37 is live I'd probably use it.

The Gen 1 was easy as I used the car aux 12v at the top of the dash aux power outlet and ran the cord around the windshield edge.
The Gen 2 has not been done yet but I like this video.

Here is the dashcam I ordered for our two Volts:

Here is the memory card I ordered:

Here is the part from the video I think and below that the instructions on it:

That's quite a coincidence - After 3 or 4 hours of research, I had settled on the same camera! It will fit (I think) just to the passenger side of the mirror. I got the impression from reading some of the user ratings that it's possible in some cars to connect it via WiFi to the screen in the car to display the live camera image. We'll see I guess

I put the one on our Gen 1 right below the mirror and you can barely see it from the drivers seat.

Always keep in mind to put it in a location that gets cleaned completely by the wiper stroke (I know sounds obvious).

I removed the same dash cam from my 12 Volt last December and haven't yet installed in my 18 Volt. TBH, I haven't reviewed videos after installing, but I too wanted it for accident purposes.
