The City of San Luis Obispo, California adopted an ordinance that required EV charging stations at every new development. CA code requires just the infrastructure for future stations. The city took it a step further and required the actual charging station. As a result, in just one year there are nearly 300 plugs approved and are in development/construction!

In the grand scheme of things it probably increased project costs by a very marginal amount since the EVCS will be installed during construction. Of course, retroactive work is much, much more expensive. This is not only great news for all EV drivers in the area, but also for residents at apartments. Because charging access is a major obstacle to the transition to EVs, having a place to plug in every night could very well cause more people to make the switch.

The full ordinance and complete story are in the article below. Please share the ordinance with your city council to try to get them to pass something similar!
