Spotted the Bolt on episode 2 of the current season of Hawaii Five-O which aired on CBS October 5th. According to this show, everyone on the island drives a late model Chevrolet vehicle. The Bolt is driven by the character of Tani Rey, so we may see more appearances of her Bolt in future episodes.

Nice to see the car on TV! Hopefully they did not add artificial gas engine noise...

On season 2 of Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton, the villain drives a Model S.

Wow, I watch that show every week and I missed her getting out of it. She must be doing pretty well to afford that....:)

That's very funny because Oahu, Hawaii has very high kWh costs, an aging power generation plant that burns oil. Oahu is very hilly, that does not help efficiency while driving an EV. Once you roll out of Honolulu the infrastructure for gas stations is pretty thin. I can only imagine what the Level 2 and CHadeMo and CCS infrastructure is like. It is true there are several Tesla Supercharger stations on Oahu but this is about charging a Chevy Bolt.

Not sure why most folks would even need DCFC on Oahu. You can get from anywhere to anywhere and back on one charge.

It would be fun to drive a EV on the Big Island. SWMBO and I were there back in the 1980s. We violated the rental car agreement, and drove our rental Jeep on the Saddle Road and up to the top of Mauna Kea to check out the big telescopes. (Way worth it.) The poor little Jeep was gasping for air up there. An EV wouldn't know the difference.

The funnier thing is that there's 271 days of sunshine in Hawaii compared to the mainland's 205 average, and hills literally make wind go faster, so the ROI for conversion to renewables would be about half the time.

From what I have read the public utility on Oahu resists residential renewable energy every step of the way.

In the most recent episode, Tani let Junior drive her Bolt, and he left the key in the cupholder. Some idiot got in to enjoy the A/C, and then drove off in the Bolt. She later found it at the beach, where the thief was still chillin' out. After getting a patrol car to take him to jail, she tried to drive the Bolt but said the battery was dead. Does the Bolt's A/C use that much juice?

It has been estimated that the Gen 2 Volt, with a much smaller 14kWh usable battery than the Bolt, could run the AC at a comfortable setting for ~8 hours. Of course we don't know what the Bolt's battery SOC was when it was stolen. What happens on the next episode, does Junior get lost looking for an elusive Level 3 CCS charging station?

Social responsibility is starting to creep into many company platforms, but I guess for power companies it becomes an existential issue.
Not if they're the ones buying the turbines and building panel farms. That's just expensive oil they don't gotta buy then.

When you have wind and sunshine as an abundant natural resource, ignore it in favor of importing liquid fuel because?

Three Reasons Hawaii Put the Brakes on Rooftop Solar Power:

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/plugged-in/3-reasons-hawaii-put-the-brakes-on-solar-and-why-the-same-won-t-happen-in-your-state/

Tesla is installing a 13 megawatt Solar City and 54 megawatt-hour Tesla Grid battery installation on the island of Kauai. Estimated cost per kWh is ~$0.14 USD.

Perhaps if there were several Tesla Power Grids on Oahu then there would be a place to send, store excess electricity.

So why doesn't Hawaii use Geothermal power? With all that volcanic activity, it seems like a no-brainer.
