2013 Volt - ~6k miles - Standard 120v charger

So as the title says, I've received these codes from onstar. Running the remote diags have come back with them and the onstar rep told me if the car wasn't having issues charging, then there would be no need to service and the light would go away. That was true and after a couple of complete charging cycles, the light did go away.

However, this has happened now 4 times. Each time, I've noticed that this has happened when my volt has been plugged in for an extended period of time, sometimes for a few days without being run.

The charger is plugged into a circuit in my garage. There are a few other things plugged into it, but nothing really heavy. I think there is a small 12v battery backup for my fiber internet and a charger for our swiffer vacuum. When I charge, I always change it to 12a otherwise it won't completely charge over the night. I've never had the breaker trip on me either, so I don't think any of the other devices are messing with the volt charger, although I'm not totally sure about that.

Every time this has happened, it will clear in a few days. So I'm curious if this might be an issue with the charger? Also, it has been a very cold winter here, sometimes getting close to 0, and when this happens, it always happens over night, never during the day if I plug in. So I wonder if the garage gets really cold if that could be hindering something, but surely not.

I'm going to schedule a service appt with the dealer, but I was curious if anyone had any input on these codes or issues before I did that. There is nothing apparent that I can tell is wrong with the car and I'd rather not have to go into the dealer and be without the car for a couple days if I can avoid it. Any suggestions would be welcome.

You might want to look at this thread. http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread...-check-engine-light-to-go-out&highlight=P0D22 Basically it's either a bug or your power. In either case it's harmless. If your software is up to date I wouldn't bother taking the car to the dealer unless you find that's a pleasant experience.

I have a friend who took his Volt in for this. AFAIK he hasn't had the problem since. Then again it's not all that cold where I am so hard to know if it would have gone away on its own.

This is a power supply issue. The charger and the Volt are hyper sensitive to power hiccups as well they should be. I have two Volts and have this occur once every few months, even on the 220 charger and with new wiring and nothing else plugged in. I suspect every Volt owner has experienced the same. But you can minimize the frequency by not having anything else running that is plugged into any outlet that is on the same circuit.

what the others have said yes, , but there may be a simpler answer: these are also the codes that show up if your charge port door does not open within a few seconds after the release solenoid is actuated. mine was sticking due to the "doughnut" seal becoming stiff, some have seen the "prong" not move easily in its retention slot. If this is the case (there could be other causes ) you can clear the code by opening and closing the charge port door 2 times with the car off. I sprayed my charge port door seal and prong and the latch pin (in the prong slot) with CRC silicone spray and the problem went away, it will also go away in warmer weather. alternatively, GM will happily install a new chargeport door, but the seal still needs to be lubricated...

I had that earlier this week, P0D22 code according to OnStar. I have always charged at 220v and have never had a MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) before. I've been charging with the same charger since the car was new, 10 months. The car seems to be charging just fine so I am waiting for a few charge cycles for the code to clear, earlier threads indicated it would take 3 charge cycles, it may be gone today. I use delayed charging so the car charges in the middle if the night while I'm sleeping so I don't really know if we had a power event or not. If we did, it was very short because all of the digital clocks in the house were still working. I'm hoping it was just a hiccup and I won't see another for another year or longer.

I personally think this is an issue unique to 2013 Volts. WHY? I owned a 2012 and plugged into the same outlets with NO engine lights ever coming on. She bought her 2013 and has had nothing but problems with that light. replaced the charger door thing with NO change. Aggravating.

I traded up to a 2014 last Dec. and again ZERO issues. This leads me to think its something in that model year.

I also started getting this P0D22 code intermittently over the last few weeks. I have not had a chance to take it in yet, but I believe that the error is something different than the charge door problems that some have had. And it does seem to clear itself after 2 or 3 days.

Afternoon Squiggie,

I apologize that you had this experience. I would contact your Advisor and they can schedule an apt for you with your service dept. You may want to inquire with service about PIP5077D and see if your need the software update applies to you.
