I was wondering if anyone has experienced a chassis rattle or knocking in the gen 2 volts?

We have a rattling or a knocking sound on occasion – sometimes we hear it when we go over a rough road or bumps. It sounds like it is coming from the undercarriage or frame. Almost sounds like a big bolt knocking or rattling around.

Maybe a shock or strut?

Are you certain it's not coming from the rear hatch? Many have reported rattling in the back end and that is often easily fixed by fiddling with and twisting the rubber stoppers to stop the rattle. But if you are convinced it is something in the suspension, take a careful visual look and quite possibly take it into the dealership as you don't want to ignore it. I had a broken front spring in my CTS once. It made a clunking noise until I replaced it. But a loose tie rod or control arm can be very dangerous.

Interesting because I came on these forums today looking for just the exact same issue. I have not taken it to the dealer yet because, for myself, it's quite actually hard to replicate and the sound is very faint. It only happens, or should I say I can only hear it, when I'm traveling less than 10km/hr and over somewhat bumpy road. Anything faster than that, I don't notice anything regardless of road surface condition.

I've can sometimes hear it when I am going really slow and turn the steering back and forth really fast.

Put the car on a lift or use ramps and check the under-body panels for rocks (or bolts?) by gently pounding with hand while listening. I had a rock which found it's way between the panel and the chassis and it drove me nuts until I finally crawled under and removed it.
Or, do it the safe and easy way and take it to the dealer and ask them to check.

I picked up a rattle in the back on my Gen 1 that turned out to be some gravel in the rear bumper by where the reverse light is. I know the Gen 2 has a different arrangement but it could be something like that.

I had a rattle and knocking sound that I though was coming from my passenger seat or passenger door. I took it into my dealer for what I though would be warranty work, but it was actually my exhaust. There was a noticeable dent and bend in my exhaust pipe right under the passenger seat. I must have hit something or bottomed out (I don't actually remember though). When I drove over a rough road or bump, the exhaust would hit the undercarriage and create the rattle and knocking sound. Dealer wanted $1700 to replace the exhaust! Took it to my brother who is a mechanic and put the volt up on a hoist and he bent it back by pulling on it (didn't have to wait for the exhaust to cool down - because I never use it!). No more rattle or knocking.

I wish I had a brother with a lift. I'd be able to do so much with it.

I suffered through a bad rattle that I thought at first was coming from the right rear door. I finally took it to the dealer. It was the air bag attachment above the door loose. Took three days to find and fix.

I had a rattle on the 2017 Volt coming from the back, It was the battery separator/compartment . It's made of plastic which is hold by 3 bolts, 2 of those bolts are metal and the 3rd one on the right side of the battery is made of plastic , which was not holding much . I end up gluing 3M felt under the plastic compartment and replace the plastic screw by a metal one. That did fix my problem..
