The charging plug will not disengage from the charging socket. 2011 Chevy Volt
Don't force it. If charging has been completed you can safely unplug the EVSE, else turn off the power at the breaker. If needed, you can disassemble the J1772 connector handle to access the release.

There is an FAQ in the Newcomer's Forum on this. It's in the Newcomers Guide area under Battery Charging FAQ's. Shows the opened handle components, how to remove the handle cap, etc.

BTW, after looking at the handle lock and the charge port, I was able to bend a coat hanger into a lock pick, insert it above the locked tooth and disengage the handle by using a small screwdriver as a lever to pull up the coat hanger wire and the lock tooth it was hooked on.

I posted some pictures in the FAQ about this locked handle issue.
