Hello, I've read on here that other people have also had this issue with their Volts. This happened the day after I drove my car off the lot. The center console started freezing up and restarting. I took it back to return it (Had 5 days where i bought it), but was asked to give them a chance to fix it, so I did. Chevy dealer said the software just needed to be reinstalled. Got the car back two days later, and it was fine for about two weeks, and then started freezing and resetting again. Very frustrating and making me regret just not going with the Prius.

To my question that i hope someone can help me with, as I wasn't able to find the information anywhere. My bumper to bumper warranty pretty much just ran out. Would the center console be part of the bumper to bumper only, or would it be a part of one of the many other warranties that are still active? Also, has anyone had any luck with Chevy legitimately fixing this issue?

Thanks for your help!

I suggest contacting a Chevy EV advisor (formerly referred to as "Volt advisor"). You should have the problem well-documented during warranty coverage. I believe GM is obligated to resolve that problem since it started during your warranty coverage.

If the facts are as you've laid them out then you shouldn't have any problems getting the issue fixed under warranty. It may be the 12v battery BTW, in which case that's not a warranted item. Could be covered under your dealer warranty.

Take advantage of the great Volt community here. Call the Chevy EV Team (not sure if there is a dedicated "Prius" team or not at Toyota)--they will help you. When my radio flaked out on my '13, it took a couple trips and the team helped get me a new radio--which has been flawless since.

After you get beyond this hiccup, those regrets won't last very long.

Especially when you've got a 3 digit lifetime MPG on your (working) console in front of you--and a Prius wayyyyy behind you in the rearview mirror...never able to keep up in 0-60 or MPG.

I think the first year I had my 2014, I noticed the freeze/reset about a half dozen times. Wasn't really a problem. The only issue was my music being interrupted. Since then, I haven't noticed it. Perhaps I'm not pushing buttons as much as I used to...

It just resets or freezes at random. Not pushing anything, just driving along and music will turn off and screen will turn off and then back on. Or will have it on the now playing screen and will notice the time hasn't changed in sometime.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think it's the 12v though. I don't notice any other symptoms of a bad battery, and I would hope that they would have tested the battery when I took it in for repairs the first time. I will bring it up when I take it back in though, just to make sure they check it.

So, never got around to calling an adviser or taking it in. Took my Volt on a trip (about 200 miles) and it didn't freeze once. Been a week of normal driving and no freezing. So I am thinking the problem fixed itself?

We had the same issue with our 2014 Volt where the center screen would freeze. Chevy had to replace the radio as that was the cause for the problem, under warranty of course. After the radio was replaced the screen no longer froze.

My 2013 Volt's console would freeze up and reboot about once a month. The Bluetooth would also refuse to connect, much more often...several times per week. I'm happy to report that my 2017 has no such issues.
